"My son started tutoring with Carolyn during the summer between 3rd and 4th grade.  Carolyn met with his 3rd grade teacher and identified some areas where she could strengthen his foundational concepts and help him prepare for the faster pace of 4th grade.  He loves his tutoring sessions.  I see a huge improvement in his confidence and in his abilities in school.  He feels great about going to school!"

FELLOW EDUCATORS

"Our son was diagnosed in the fall of 2015 with moderate to severe dyslexia.  We were referred to Carolyn and began sessions twice a week right away.  School was a struggle and he was reading well below the fourth grade level.  Since he began his tutoring sessions with Carolyn, his reading and word recognition have dramatically improved.  His attitude and approach to reading have completely changed from two years ago.  Carolyn has made time to attend his parent-teacher conferences and develop relationships with his teachers so that they are working together for his overall improvement. Carolyn has made such an impact on our son and we cannot imagine where we would be without her."

"In the fall of 2013, my son was struggling with reading at school, but very frustrated when I tried to help him at home. After asking his teacher for a referral, we were privileged to find Carolyn. She is a kind, proactive, dedicated educator. At first my son was reluctant to try a new “tutor” which required more reading outside of school. However, after two short sessions he left Carolyn’s studio with a smile on his face and quickly started showing more confidence and patience in his reading ability. She made him feel comfortable using games and special books which had a significant impact on his learning in a short amount of time. I heartily recommend Carolyn to any parent who is seeking a warm and encouraging tutor who cares about your child's learning."

"My daughter was struggling in school with reading and math. She was resistant to homework and it became daily verbal battles and tears between us.  We interpreted her behavior as being stubborn and defiant. She was labeled as a problem child by the school and her peers. This was how her dyslexia presented itself. Her teacher at the end of second grade recognized her struggle and suggested that she may be dyslexic.  She was tested the following fall and was identified as having a learning disability - which is how dyslexia is identified in the state of Montana. A friend overheard my conversation with another mom and spoke up and discussed her own child's struggles and said they were meeting with Carolyn and he had made amazing progress with his reading skills and offered up Carolyn's information.  As a parent I felt I had exhausted all possibilities to help my daughter be more like her peers, to absorb what she was supposed to be absorbing, and be proficient at her age level. My daughter was suffering and it was beginning to affect her emotionally and also affecting us emotionally as parents. I am so thankful for my friend sharing her story and opening the door of tutoring for my daughter.

Carolyn graciously was willing to take my daughter under her wing.  She has been able to reach my daughter and engage her in no way I've ever seen a teacher accomplish. Carolyn met my daughter at the comprehension level she was at and has worked with her to build her self-confidence in her reading ability. There were every day basic functions that we had no idea she did not know.  Carolyn was able to tease these out and offer up suggestions to how to overcome them. Carolyn moves fluidly from one learning moment to another with her. She has her mostly full attention and focus during the sessions.  She has multiple tricks up her sleeve to keep kids focused or to refocus them back to the topic they are working on.  She teaches her students about the importance of being an advocate for themselves with their individual needs at school. Carolyn has a group Facebook page where she shares articles that are supportive resources for families. This page has been helpful to locating professional online information. It has also helped me not feel isolated in my struggles as a parent with a different needs child. Carolyn has open conversations with us as parents to let us know what areas we, as parents, need to pay more attention to and be advocates for. She is more than happy to share resources that she has developed in her classroom that may be a perfect fit for the child's needs at the time. Carolyn is patient, kind, and is fully invested in her students' progress.  My daughter would not have made the steps to where she is today without Carolyn.  She is a gift to all the students she teaches."
